Kid Licks

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes it different?

Ordinary nail polish is full of chemicals you wouldn’t want your kids to ingest, like toluene, formaldehyde and DBP, the “toxic trio.” Even water based polishes and so called “kids’ polishes” are made mostly from acrylic polymers and synthetic pigments. You can read more about this here. Kid Licks is made from food and is organic and edible. The colors come from fruits and vegetables, so you never have to worry about your kids getting it in their mouths.

What are the ingredients?

Visit out store, click on the color you’re interested in, and you’ll find the ingredients listed. All of our polishes are made entirely of food, and are organic, vegan, non-GMO and cruelty free.

Is Kid Licks gluten-free, nut-free, or dairy-free?

Kid Licks does not contain any gluten, dairy or nuts (either peanuts or tree nuts). For the time being, it is made in a facility that processes items containing gluten, dairy and nuts, but we’re working on changing that too.

How long does it take to dry?

Kid Licks dries to the touch in about 5 minutes, less if you use a hair drier. It takes several hours to fully cure, so if you want it to last for a while, we suggest putting it on before bed, drying it with a hair drier, and letting it cure overnight.

How long does it last once it’s on?

Once it is fully cured, Kid Licks should last the better part of a day unless your kid goes swimming or takes a shower.

How do you remove it?

With water. Once it’s dried and cured for a couple hours, it takes some scrubbing, but nothing kids can’t handle themselves.

How long does a bottle last after you open it?

Kid Licks should be refrigerated after you open it, since it is food and doesn’t contain chemical preservatives. It will last about 2 months in the refrigerator.

How old does my kid have to be to use it?

The polish itself can be used at any age, even on babies’ nails. The bottle is glass, though, and the brush could be a choking hazard for very young children if they are able to pull it out of the cap. For that reason, children five and under should be supervised when using Kid Licks from the bottle.

Will it stain?

Kid Licks colors come from natural fruits and vegetables, some of which stain more easily than others. In general, we recommend keeping Kid Licks away from carpets and nice clothes. Of course, accidents happen. Because Kid Licks is water based, a quick rinse with water will often keep a stain from becoming permanent.

Can I buy it in stores?

Right now, Kid Licks is only available through our store. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page, though, and we will let you know when it’s available other places.
